About Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced "ray-key", is a Japanese therapy that uses gentle touch to promote relaxation and well-being. The word "reiki" comes from the Japanese words rei, meaning universal, and ki, which roughly translates to a flow of life force energy. Reiki is based on the idea that people with high energy levels are more likely to be happy and healthy, while those with low energy levels are more likely to be stressed or unwell.
During a reiki session, the practitioner places their hands on or near the client's clothed body, usually in specific areas like the head, shoulders, stomach, and feet, along the chakras. Each hand position is held for about 3 to 10 minutes, and sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes.
Reiki is not part of any religion or belief system, and it is not intended to cure illnesses or diseases. However, some say that reiki can have physical and mental health benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, lowering blood pressure, and promoting feelings of calm. These positive effects may come, at least in part, from the state of relaxation that reiki encourages.
